There is a small tree on the beautiful island of Zanzibar that the locals refer to as the “lipstick tree”.
Officially known as the Achiote (Bixa orellana) this tree originates from the tropics of the Americas.
It is best known as the source of annatto, a natural orange-red condiment made from the seeds, which was also used to make red body paint and lipstick.
